Real Volume. Real Beauty. Real Serious: Dove Oxygen Moisture haircare

Here’s a little secret. When you’re a beauty blogger, you try LOTS of products. Lots and LOTS and LOOOOOOTS of products. You know how you know which products make your favorites? When you use them over and over again even with thousands of products sitting around and when you go out and buy ’em yourself.

That is exactly the case with my new hair cocktail for a comely coif: Dove Oxygen Moisture Shampoo ($4.98), Dove Oxygen Moisture Conditioner ($4.98) and Dove Oxygen Moisture Leave-In Foam ($5.98).

A Perfect Cocktail For A Comely Coif: Dove Oxygen Moisture Shampoo, Conditioner and Leave-In Foam

I’ve always been a fan of Dove and their Real Beauty campaign so I really wanted to like these products but still, I started with no expectations. After all, these products are a steal at under $6 each at Walmart! What could they really do for my hair?
Well, they did a lot. Let’s start with the shampoo and conditioner.

Real Volume. Real Beauty. Real Serious: Dove Oxygen Moisture Shampoo & Dove Oxygen Moistue Conditioner

Dove Oxygen Moisture Shampoo ($4.98) & Dove Oxygen Moisture Conditioner ($4.98): Made with Oxyfusion Technology, these products say they add moisture and shine to hair. And boy, do they! I’ll be honest. At first, I was a little worried. A little of the shampoo went a long way and it felt so moisturizing that I thought there was no way my fine hair would take it. But this surprised me! Even though it’s super moisturizing and conditioning-feeling in your hand, it rinses clean away leaving no residue or heaviness. I promise.

I found a fave coif cocktail in Dove Oxygen Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner!

Next, I applied the Dove Oxygen Moisture Leave-In Foam ($5.98), prior to blowdrying, concentrating on my roots. It claimed to increase hair volume by 95%. And it did, it did!! Really. Seriously. About a 100% increase in my opinion because I didn’t have to use velcro rollers at my roots for once. Hallelujah!

A little Kelly Kapowski but who cares. Volume, people. Volume. Hallelujah!

I wanted to give you guys authentic results so I only spent 10 minutes on my blowdry (because I know how busy we all are) and was wowed by the results. One trick? I blowdried my hair upside down – as I always do. I couldn’t believe the volume, body and fullness that my hair had. Sadly, that doesn’t happen every day so it’s kinda nice knowing that now it can.

Happy hair. Happy Girl. Thanks, Dove!

As if learning about these pretty products isn’t enough, they also have a great promotion where you can watch a Dove 2 Hair Stories video and save $1.50 off Dove products at Walmart! Check it out.
And, seriously, guys. If you want mega volume without the mega prices, check this line out. You’ll be glad you did.
I sure am.

 xoxo,
BF

Pre-Coachella Mane Makeover at Sally Hershberger Salon in Los Angeles

When the folks at the Sally Hershberger salon in Los Angeles want to give you a mane makeover  (complete with a keratin treatment, cut, blowdry and style) for Coachella, you let ’em! And not just let ’em, you LOVE ’em!!

Now I know how intimidating it can be going in to a hoity-toity, high-end salon. And it can be even more intimidating when that salon belongs to the goddess of coifs herself, Sally Hershberger. But I cannot emphasize enough how down-to-earth Sally and her team of stylists are.

BEFORE: A little fried and frizzy

Let’s start with colorist and texture technician extraordinaire, Andrew Cruz. With Andrew, I got a customized keratin treatment. So what does customized mean? Well, I was worried – from prior keratin experience – that my hair would be left flat, limp and so-not-sexy. But Andrew had a secret solution! He took the 2 best forms of keratin for my hair and applied them where they needed to go in a custom, non-cookie cutter application. Instead of volume-sapping results, I walked out with shiny, conditioned, baby-soft hair with bounce. It was the best keratin treatment I’ve ever received, I do believe.

Post-keratin goofing with smoother-extraordinaire, Andrew Cruz at Sally Hershberger salon

In Phillip James, I found a stylist not only with sharp skill but with sweet soul. He knew I was fearful of taking too much off the ends, so he took off just what was necessary and with his warmth and kind smile, I instantly trusted him.

A little nervous about losing a little length...but Phillip put my fears at ease

Then, he knew that I love to wear my hair 1970s style – with a little winged bang action à la Jaclyn Smith – so he tapered my fringe around my face to be amenable to that kind of styling as well as being worn straight. What Phillip adds to your soul – not to mention your hair – is richer than I can describe here on a blog. So you get more gorgeous on the outside while feeling more gorgeous on the inside.

Phillip made me feel not only gorgeous on the outside but on the inside as well!

And I left with a little extra pep in my step because they sent me home with some of Sally’s finest products so I can get the same results at home!

Now, I can get this sleek, sexy look at home! And my new fave tee pictured here is by Hello Apparel ($22)

Sally Hershberger products in my home! Coachella really IS like Christmas! Yay!

Walking out of their salon onto La Cienega – one of the busiest streets in Los Angeles – I felt downright sassy and – dare I say – confident. Good thing it was date night! (Wink, wink)

AFTER: Controlled, smooth, sleek...and just a tad bit sassy *tee c/o Hello Apparel ($22)

BF On The Case, Part 3: #SecretToGoodness – The coif caper is revealed…

I’m not an easy one to surprise…but I DO love me a good mystery!
So, when I was sent a mystery package a few weeks ago containing mystery hair products I was asked to try, I was both excited…and a little nervous, naturally.

But after trying the golden-bottled products for a week (and then deciding to keep using them even after the #SecretToGoodness challenge was over), I was pleasantly surprised and delighted at how GORGEOUS my hair looked!
It was fuller, more voluminous and shi-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-ny. And it didn’t feel heavy at all – but, rather, as light as a feather.

So when they sent those same products – but this time, thankfully, with the labels on them – I was excited to see who this coif caper was!

Well, I am happy to announce that the products sent by the coif caper doesn’t cost too pretty a penny. Here’s how it went:

My mom documented me opening the box…

The mystery is about to be solved! Opening the #SecretToGoodness Box...

And finding the box inside…

What in the world is this hair gold? #SecretToGoodness

And opening the box…

Here we go, here we go, here we go! #SecretToGoodness

And realizing that the products were Suave Natural Infusion Seaweed All Day Body Shampoo and Conditioner and Leave-In Foam!!

I was totally surprised! I love this stuff! #SecretToGoodness

Well, noooooow, this makes sense! The key ingredients in these pocketbook-friendly, pretty products are seaweed and lotus blossom! Ahhhh, now I see how it works! And,  so many of you will looooove this – this line of products contain no parabens or dyes. And best yet? It can be bought at Walmart for not too pretty a penny but for pretty, pretty hair.

So you can have beautiful hair without breaking the bank.

I went through the process of solving this mystery so you don’t have to. After all, with all of us beauty bloggers around to share our experiences, hair products should never be a mystery!

BF On The Case: #SecretToGoodness, Part 2

My fellow mystery-solvers,

I am stumped by this case.

I received this mystery box of golden goodness a few weeks ago and began using every 2 days to see if I could unravel the mystery.

I still don’t know what these products are. But here is what I do know:

Clue 1: The unidentified bottles are labeled “S” (for shampoo), “C” (for conditioner) and “A” for a bottle that contains some sort of styling foam. There was a direction card included with minimal, standard instructions for how to use each product. I have followed them to the letter.

Clue 2: The shampoo washes my hair clean without stripping the hair and seems to provide moisture without weighing down hair. It smells like Spring around Easter time. A light floral (maybe Jasmine) with a touch of light citrus perhaps. It is looooovely!!

Clue 3: The conditioner permeates my hair from top to tip and doesn’t leave any heaviness on the hair. Since we were instructed to use these products as we normally would, I finished with a cold rinse as per my usual routine. And again that lovely scent filled my shower and left my hair smelling like spring came early!

Clue 4: The “A” foam-like product really gives my hair a beautiful boost! Volume at the roots, no heaviness (can you tell that I don’t like heaviness) and seems to make it shine more.

Clue 5: Here’s one pic taken where my hair looks pretty darned voluptuous taken at an event after my first usage of the products. This was at a charity man auction – (don’t) ask – and um, let’s just say I was suuuuuper happy with my hair. Volume, movement, shine and my hair felt totally soft and supple.

Love the shiny waves that #SecretToGoodness leaves me with!

Clue 6: Here was my hair during Valentine’s week. I was delighted that it was shiny, fuller-feeling and seemed to hold curl much better than usual.

Locks that hold curls? It really is liquid gold!! #SecretToGoodness

So what have I deduced? That this really is some liquid gold and I MUST know what it is!!!
And as soon as I do, you know you’ll be the FIRST to know!!

BF Asks: What do the clues tell you?

In-My-Tub-Tuesday: Christine Shampoo & Conditioner by Van Thomas Concepts

Listen, it’s hard to find the right shower buddy.

As a girl who gets regular keratin treatments, it’s sometimes hard to find a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner that deep cleanses and conditions without stripping.

Well, I met a girl who gets the job done. Her name is Christine and she is glorious. Not just glorious though, she actually produces gooooorgeous results.

The blonde isn't Christine. It's Kirbie of PopSugar. Look at that shine on my dark hair!! Thanks, Christine!

The Christine Shampoo ($18) uses magical (well, I think it’s magical) micro-lather technology to deep cleanse – all the way from scalp to ends! Hair feels squeaky clean without feeling stripped which is exactly how I like it!

And the Christine Reconstructive Conditioner replenishes nutrients, oils and protein vital to healthy, heavenly hair without weighing it down.

In-My-Tub-Tuesday: Meet my new shower buddy, Christine!

Sulfate-and-paraben-free, it’s perfect for any cut, color or texture.

Yep, that is the truth about Christine. I’m utterly smitten. So smitten that she’s become someone I shower with quite regularly.

BF Asks: Who are you showering with these days?

Tress Tuesday: Honey, I’m Home – Welcome DryBar on West 3rd Street!

In December, Drybar moved near my ‘hood on West 3rd Street – which is basically like that guy you’ve always had a crush on moving right down the street from you and making your dreams come true…all while giving you a beautiful blowout and serving you mimosas.

Drybar in my hood? Honey, I'm home!!

Yep, I’ve had my share of other blowouts in the area over the years but none really compare to the original Drybar. They’re consistent, they’re stylish, they’re friendly, they’re effective and I always leave all relaxed, coiffed and comely in less than an hour for only $40.

Lovin' my Drybar hair…and my margarita at the airport… (my Mai Tai 'do styled by Jud Ashouri at Drybar on West 3rd Street in Los Angeles)

Another bonus? They don’t charge extra for hot tool use (curling irons, rollers, flatirons, etc.) so you don’t feel like you’re getting overcharged.

Plus, how can you not feel heavenly and happy with all that cheerful yellow? Add in the fact that the new location is next to both a Benefit boutique and Magnolia Bakery and you can color me one happy girl.

All that yellow AND Magnolia Bakery and Benefit Cosmetics as neighbors? Color me one happy girl!

Of course, I’ve already been to this location quite a few times and found my favorite stylist…Jud Ashouri.

With my Jud at the new Drybar on West 3rd Street

Jud not only gives a great blowout and style but she’s cool, stylish, honest, witty, and wise way beyond her years. Like I want to be friends with her because I feel like I could learn a lot from this girl. And the scalp massage I got from Jud? Killer. Like dreamy.

My faaaaaaaaaaaaaavorite part - the $10 scalp massage...

And her blowouts? They last me around 3 days so I feel like I’m getting more bang for my beauty buck.

My fave ‘do that we do is the Mai Tai – messy beach hair – which is perfect when I have an event, party or show to attend. The waves last and make me feel darned downright sexy. Something I can never accomplish at home when it comes to my coif.

And right now, they’re extending a verrrry special “Friends with Benefits” deal to my BeautyFrosting readers and social media followers! Now, get your heads out of the gutter, it’s not that kind of “friends with benefits.” After all, we all know that nevvvvver works. Nope, when you call to make your appointment, just mention the code #FWBDawn to receive $5 off your blowout all day Monday-Thursday. To make an appointment, just visit www.TheDrybar.com or call (310) 442-6084.

A special for BeautyFrosting readers - Mention that you're a BF reader or Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Pinterest follower and get $5 off your blowout at this location all day Monday-Thursday.

It’s the one Friends with Benefits relationship that actually works because at the very least, you’ll get a beautiful blowout and at the best, you’ll be inundated with compliments and stares from strangers. I do believe that my crush has evolved into a full-on monogamous relationship.
